Hillman Meat Company was formally established in 1992 by Paul and Brian Hillman.
In reality it has been a family business for over 6 generations. Before 1992, the business ran as a retail chain, Scottish Meats, in the 70's and 80's.
Having seen friends’ CJ’s Pasta’s website, Paul Hillman contacted Propeller to give Hillman Meats a marketing refresh with a revised logo, new website and an email marketing facility.
We first tackled Hillman’s logo, bringing it up to date and adding a touch of polish, before moving on to the company’s new website.
The new Hillman Meat Co website features a rotating background images on the home page along with a full graphical navigation of their products, news summaries and an opportunity to subscribe to the Hillman Meats e-Newsletter.
Hillman Meat Company is the forst website to employ dynamic web fonts by using Typekit. Typekit is a subscription-based service for linking to high-quality Open Type fonts from some of the worlds best type foundries. By using Typekit we’ve been able to use the beautiful Annabelle script font by Veer for the main headings and Angie STD Sans to complement it in the body.
We’ll discuss web fonts in more detail in another article later but for now I think you’ll agree that in this instance, being able to use these beautiful fonts really enhances the site.
The Hillman Meat Company website is built on the open-source Textpattern CMS, coded to XHTML Strict 1.0 and utilises CSS2.1 for layout and styling.
As with other recent projects, several CSS3 styling enhancements have been added where appropriate and can be seen in progressive browsers such as Safari, Firefox and Chrome. Additionally, Hillman Meat Company also employs the full suite of Page Speed enhancements we’ve been developing and testing over the past few months.
